ISTE Standard for Students 7: Global Collaborator

Students use digital tools to broaden their perspectives and enrich their learning by collaborating with others and working effectively in teams locally and globally.

7a. Students use digital tools to connect with learners from a variety of backgrounds and cultures, engaging with them in ways that broaden mutual understanding and learning.

7b. Students use collaborative technologies to work with others, including peers, experts or community members, to examine issues and problems from multiple viewpoints.

7c. Students contribute constructively to project teams, assuming various roles and responsibilities to work effectively toward a common goal.

7d. Students explore local and global issues and use collaborative technologies to work with others to investigate solutions.

Coursera

I looked at graphic design courses offered on Coursera. It turns out that there are a lot of classes related to art, design, and art history on this site. In the area of graphic design, Coursera offers five specific courses that are designed by professors at CalArts. CalArts is one of the leading art schools in America.

If you complete the every course in the series and finish a hands-on project for each course, you can earn a certificate. This certificate can be used to present to future employers.

Reflection

More and more high schools are starting to offer graphic design as a course that students can take to help fulfill their art or CTE degree. However, I do not know that much about graphic design (and could use a refresher on some basic skills). A lot of what I do know about graphic design is self-taught and I would love to have my own knowledge verified by other instructors. I would use a course such as this to improve my own skills and to potentially inform my own lessons that I might teach.
